As the sport climbing season draws to a close its time again to put the word out for applications to the 7aMax Scottish Bolt Fund. We have quite a decent pot this year, thanks to all those that bought the book or donated directly to the fund. Thank you all.
The Scottish Bolt fund was set up by the authors of 7aMax Scottish Sport to support the re-equipping and improvement of existing sport routes across the country. This includes the replacement of old bolts, upgrading of lower-offs etc, but does not cover the costs of new lines or developments. Just these vital improvements have a not insignificant materials cost.
To date the fund has improved the safety of the following crags.
Black Rock, Arisaig – partial funding of full re-equipping of bolts and lower-offs
Glutton Crag – installation of proper lower-offs
Craig Mhor – installation of proper lower-offs
Creag nan cadhag – New stainless lower-offs
Balgone Heughs – redevelopment of old bolted lines
Miscellaneous replacement hardware at Moy, the Camel, Upper Cave
Massive thanks go out to the unsung volunteers who do the very hard work of actually getting up there and replacing the gear for the good of all! Its a massive, and often thankless job, while we just have the easy job of covering some of their expenses.
If you know of a bolted crag that needs some safety improvements you can either:
1. Get in touch with us and we will contact a local activists to see if we can help the work get done
or
2. If you feel confident in your abilities, make an application to us for funds, and do the work yourself. Please make clear in the application what bolting or rope access experience you have. You can find an application form HERE
