7aMax Boltfund projects

17th August 2021 by 7a Max

Massive thankyous to everyone who donated to the 7aMax Boltfund, or bought the book (from which a tithe goes into the fund).

Neil and Callum donated their time to upgrade the worn-out loweroffs at Benny Beg. The three of us made good time and managed to fix up all the routes of the crag in one day. The left sector now has custom made ‘bolt-products’ belay hangers, while the right sector has Fixe ring hangers (thanks to Needlesports for the discount!). All studs were inspected, and replaced as required. Loose blocks were identified and bypassed. On some routes the first really bomber rock was a little below the top, so they now stop just below the lip.
There is also a practice lower-off by the tree at the left of the crag, so anyone can practice safely re-threading before they have to do it for reals.
Benny’s Groove was assessed and deemed too unstable for a beginners crag, so we de-bolted the whole line before someone got killed.
Please make sure to place your own biners or quickdraws on the lower-offs when top-roping to avoid wearing them out!
There are more re-equipping projects underway, and we will report on them here and our facebook page as they are completed.
Have fun folks, check your knot and climb safe!

7aMax back in stock

17th July 2020 by 7a Max

Just a quick note to let you know that we have stock again of the latest edition of 7aMax, so you can purchase a copy direct from us, the authors. Which is nice for us. Look for the paypal button to the right.

Its the perfect time in Scotland to get a copy since we can now venture further afield and enjoy all the climbing that our country has to offer. Sport climbing is an ideal way to safely get back into climbing routes on real rock.

So enjoy, stay safe, and make sure you have brushed up on the basic skills like how to re-thread a lower-off without coming off belay. Remember that one? Make sure you do before you leave the ground.

Happy Climbing!

Stock update and venturing back out….

17th June 2020 by 7a Max

Thank you all for the recent orders from us, we are now out of stock of the old edition. Hopefully we will get some more in soon, but in the meantime, support your local climbing shop and order from them (rather than Amazon etc). They are going to be struggling through this lean time and will appreciate your business.

If you are venturing (locally) back out to the crags, please be safe, be responsible. Keep within your limits and observe social distancing. Don’t share equipment outwith your household and please don’t do anything that might require the mountain rescue to come out. Its the last thing they need to be doing right now. Here’s hoping that the situation in Scotland continues to improve and perhaps we might get a little of that spring weather back sometime???

Also, just a reminder that we have a pot of Bolt Fund that never got used (in part due to the lockdown). If you are interested in taking on some re-equipping, and have the skills to do so, please get in touch from the contact page.

All the best, happy climbing and remember to check your knot!

Special Offer, and a message to our readers.

21st March 2020 by 7a Max

We have a small number of the previous printing version of 7aMax in our box, so we are selling through our Paypal at reduced price. All the goodness of the second edition, just missing the Creag Mhor supplement pages (available as a pdf on this site), available for the bargain price of £13.50. That 20% off the normal RRP. Get them while they last! A great way to plan ahead for when travel conditions return to normal, or to enjoy at your local crag. Just use the ‘Buy it Now’ button on this page while stocks last.

Please climb safely, not in groups, and consider the needs of our rescue and medical professionals in this difficult time! They dont need any extra work.
We realise how important climbing is for our mental and physical health, but please don’t travel far from your home. Assume that you are a danger to the communities that you might normally pass through en-route to your favourite venue.

Stay well, do the right thing. This too shall pass.

The 7aMax Bolt-fund 2019

1st November 2019 by 7a Max

As the sport climbing season draws to a close its time again to put the word out for applications to the 7aMax Scottish Bolt Fund. We have quite a decent pot this year, thanks to all those that bought the book or donated directly to the fund. Thank you all.

The Scottish Bolt fund was set up by the authors of 7aMax Scottish Sport to support the re-equipping and improvement of existing sport routes across the country. This includes the replacement of old bolts, upgrading of lower-offs etc, but does not cover the costs of new lines or developments. Just these vital improvements have a not insignificant materials cost.

To date the fund has improved the safety of the following crags.

Black Rock, Arisaig – partial funding of full re-equipping of bolts and lower-offs
Glutton Crag – installation of proper lower-offs
Craig Mhor – installation of proper lower-offs
Creag nan cadhag – New stainless lower-offs
Balgone Heughs – redevelopment of old bolted lines
Miscellaneous replacement hardware at Moy, the Camel, Upper Cave

Massive thanks go out to the unsung volunteers who do the very hard work of actually getting up there and replacing the gear for the good of all! Its a massive, and often thankless job, while we just have the easy job of covering some of their expenses.

If you know of a bolted crag that needs some safety improvements you can either:

1. Get in touch with us and we will contact a local activists to see if we can help the work get done
or
2. If you feel confident in your abilities, make an application to us for funds, and do the work yourself. Please make clear in the application what bolting or rope access experience you have. You can find an application form HERE

7aMax Bolt-Fund

14th May 2016 by 7a Max

The Scotish Bolt Fund was set up in 2013 to assist the replacment of deteriorating in-situ gear with long lasting stainless steel products. 10% of the proceeds of our book have gone into the fund, which has already helped re-equip Balgone Heughs and crags on the North West coast.

We are just about to distribute funds for this year, but given the amount of re-equipping activity we have heard of, what we have is going to be a drop in the ocean. The BMC bolt fund does not cover Scotland, making your support all the more important. Therefore we are asking for contributions of any size to to the fund to make our sport climbs better. If you enjoy Scotlands sport climbing, please consider the work that goes into them, and perhaps think of a donation as an investment in your own safety!

Donations can be made on this website (“contacts” page) with paypal
You can also find application forms here if you feel that the fund would help your own efforts.

Thank you for the support, Seb and Topher.
